Making Sure EMS is Right for You

At Fit In 20, your health and wellbeing are our top priority. EMS training is safe and effective for most people, but there are certain conditions where it may not be suitable without medical clearance.

That’s why we ask anyone with the following conditions to check in with their doctor before starting EMS. With a doctor’s note, many people are still able to train safely.

Please speak with your doctor if you have:

  • Acute infections or inflammatory processes
  • Recent surgeries (within the past 2 months)
  • Circulation issues or untreated high blood pressure
  • Diabetes, pregnancy, or electrical implants (e.g. pacemaker)
  • Cardiac arrhythmia, tumours or cancer
  • Bleeding disorders or tendency to bleed (e.g. haemophilia)

Neurological & structural conditions

  • Neurological diseases, epilepsy, motion sickness
  • Abdominal wall hernias or inguinal hernia
  • Varicosis or varicose veins
  • Neuralgia, herniated disks

Other situations where EMS may not be suitable

  • Acute influence of alcohol, drugs, or narcotics
  • Asthma or tuberculosis

The bottom line

If any of these apply to you, it doesn’t mean EMS is off the table forever. It just means you’ll need a quick conversation with your doctor to make sure it’s safe for you.

Once cleared, you’ll be able to train with confidence, knowing your safety is protected every step of the way.
